  • Day 1

    Arrival in Antananarivo

After passing through immigration and customs you are met by your local English-speaking guide and transfer to your hotel for dinner.

  • Day 2

    Antananarivo to Antsirabe

After a leisurely morning and lunch in Tana, you drive south to the pleasant town of Antsirabe. This is one of the country’s prettiest towns, steeped in its French colonial past. Traditional hand pulled rickshaws known as pousse pousse are still widely used.

  • Day 3

    Antsirabe to Miandrivazo

Today you drive to the town of Miandrivazo. The journey follows a spectacular road and you will have plenty of stops to take photos of the amazing scenery and also to meet the local people. You will stop for lunch along the way before you eventually arrive at Miandrivazo where you stay at a local hotel.

  • Day 4

    Tsiribihina River

The next two days are spent canoeing in traditional pirogues down the Tsiribihina River. The canoes can seat between 3 and 5 people and will be steered by a local expert (although you should be prepared to paddle). You pass through a pastoral landscape of mango trees, tobacco plantations and remote villages. Lemurs can be seen in the forest from our campsites on sand bars by the edge of the river.

  • Day 5

    Tsiribihina River

You continue the journey along the Tsiribihina River, passing high cliffs and a waterfall. There are great opportunities to spot local bird life along the way.

  • Day 6

    Belo Sur Tsiribihina - Bekopaka

Today is the final day of your river trip and you end the journey close to the town of Belo sur Tsiribihina. You are met by your private vehicle and transfer the short distance to the town of Bekopaka and your accommodation. A chance for hot showers and a time to relax.

  • Day 7

    The Tsingy

This morning you travel by 4x4 vehicles along a dramatic dirt road, northwards to spectacular Tsingy de Bemaraha, a UNESCO world heritage site. The Tsingy is a remarkable landscape of Karst limestone pinnacles and unique mangrove forests, home to many species of lemur. In the afternoon you can hike through the pinnacles for a closer view.

  • Day 8

    Manambolo Gorge

In the morning you visit the Manambolo Gorge which runs along the southern edge of the Tsingy de Bemaraha with it's northen banks being part of the World Heritage Site itself. It is a place of great mystery and sacredness to the Malagasy as they believe their ancestors still roam this area. The gorge itself is a wonderful place with spectacular cliffs covered in trees growing at crazy angles.

  • Day 9

    Morondava

In the morning you begin the drive south and will visit the famous ‘Avenue of the Baobabs’. Although not unique to Madagscar, these unusual trees are closely associated with the island and the ‘Avenue’ is one of the iconic images of the region. Under threat from forest clearance and agriculture, these spectacular trees should not be missed.

  • Day 10

    Belo sur Mer

You continue our drive to Belo sur Mer which is a quiet fishing village with beautiful white sandy beaches. Your accommodation is at an eco-lodge situated on the sea front.

  • Day 11

    Belo sur Mer

You have a full day today at Belo sur Mer to relax and enjoy the beautiful setting. Snorkelling is one option here and we can also arrange for a boat trip to one of the nearby coral islands where local fisherman live and we can swim in the glorious turquoise waters

  • Day 12

    Drive to Morondava

Today you drive to Morondava and a final night at your lodge. There will be time to explore the town, perhaps for some souvenir shopping, and in the evening you can either dine at the lodge or perhaps have a beach barbeque and campfire.

  • Day 13

    Morondava to Antananarivo

This morning you transfer to the small, local airport for the short domestic flight to Antananarivo. The afternoon will be free to relax. In the afternoon there will be opportunities to visit the local markets for souvenir shopping, before dinner and an evening transfer to the airport.

  • Day 14
