The route turns off south at the town of Asni and you pass Richard Branson’s Kasbah Tamadot, where lunch can be taken if you wish. The road begins to climb up into the mountains and eventually you reach the village of Imlil at the foot of Toubkal, the highest mountain in Morocco. The area is a trekkers paradise with many varied paths to choose from. You will spend the next two nights here in a comfortable Kasbah.

  • Day 4

You have a full day at Imlil to explore the valley and local area. The village is centre for adventure sports and trekking and it is interesting to explore. Essaouira is a relaxed place on the Atlantic coast with a long, windy beach much favoured by kite surfers. There is a harbour of small fishing boats, and fortifications dating back to the time when the Portugese occupied the city, and when it was known as Mogador. There is also a bustling medina with souks and a delightful square with cafes and excellent fish restaurants.

  • Day 6

    Essaouira
