Sahara Desert Experience

Starting in the bustling souks of Marrakech, we drive across the Atlas and the Tizi n Tikcha pass to Ouarzazate, stopping at the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou which has featured in so many Hollywood films, before making our way south to the Sahara for camel riding in the dunes.

  • Day 1

    Fly to Marrakech

    You fly to Marrakech today and are met on arrival by your guide. Marrakech is a wonderfully exotic city and you will be able to visit the incredible Djemma al Fna square with its entertainers and food stalls, and explore the Souks.

  • Day 2

    Ouarzazate

    This morning you depart from Marrakech and drive across the Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n Tichka pass. Descending on the south side of the pass, you stop to explore the renowned Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou where many famous Hollywood films have been set. The journey continues to the frontier town of Ouarzazate.

  • Day 3

    Merzouga

    Today is a long journey into the Sahara Desert, passing through Agdz with its oases of date palm trees. You leave behind the mountainous landscape of the Atlas and enter the arid desert zone which culminates at the remote town of Merzouga, situated beneath the rolling dunes of Erg Chebbi. Your accommodation for the evening is in traditional Bedouin tents.

  • Day 4

    Camel Trek

    Today you have an exciting camel trek into the dunes of Erg Chebbi. The camels are led by a guide and you ride into the midst of a fantastic landscape of ever changing wind-blown dunes. Climbing to the top of the highest dunes, we get a fantastic view south into the heart of the Sahara. In the afternoon you return to the camp.

  • Day 5

    Todra Gorge

    This morning you begin the journey back to Ouarzazate, driving to the town of Tinghir. After lunch you can hike through the spectacular Todra Gorge where the Dades River has carved out a 25 mile long canyon with sheer walls rising several hundred feet.

  • Day 6

    Ouarzazate

    This morning you return to Ouarzazate. After lunch you can visit the Kasbah of Tifoultoute

We generally recommend flights with Easyjet or Ryanair.  Please bear in mind that Morocco is a very popular destination during school holidays, in particular the half terms of October, February and May. Flexibility with your departure date will help keep prices lower.

It has both an indoor and outdoor pool, and is just a short walk from the Post Office which is the centre of Gueliz.
