School Trips to Iceland

With is remarkable array of natural and geological wonders, Iceland is rightly known as the Land of Fire and Ice.

Its uniqueness in this regard makes it an ideal destination for those interesed in Geography and Geology. The Golden Circle tour visits many of the best known natural sites including Pingvellir, Geysir, Strokkur and the famous waterfall of Gulfoss.

Iceland has many dormant volcanoes which, as we have seen,  sometimes spring to life. The volcanic Westmann Islands, which include Surtsey, lie a short plane trip from the south coast and are one of the country’s best kept secrets.

Iceland offers a diverse range of easy activities for the visitor.  You can go whale watching from the harbour at Reykjavik, go pony trekking less than an hour from the capital, and soak in the milky warm waters of the famous Blue Lagoon.

For those seeking a challenge, there are spectacular blue-ice glaciers where you can hike, or learn ice climbing.  The huge ice cap of Vatnajokull is one of the largest outside the Polar regions and visitors can enjoy an excursion by boat on an ‘inland’ sea with floating icebergs.

The austere mountains provide trekking which ranges from easy half-day walks of just a few hours up to multi-day back country hikes using the excellent network of mountain lodges.
