Biblical Jordan

Most famous for the Rose Red city of Petra, built by the Nabateans 300 years before Christ, Jordan also has some of the finest Roman archaeology in the Levant.

It is also of great importance in the Christian world, and Bethany by the Jordan is claimed as the place where John the Baptist baptised Jesus.

  • Day 1

    Fly to Amman

    Fly to Amman where you are met on arrival and transfer to your hotel in the centre of Amman. Flights from the UK typically arrive late in the evening.

  • Day 2

    Jerash & Umm Qais

    This morning you drive north to visit Jerash. Known as the Pompeii of the East, Jerash is widely regarded as the bestpreserved city of the Decapolis. You continue north to Um Qais, the ancient Greco-Roman City of Gadara that offers a splendid panoramic view over the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan Valley and the Golan Heights. In the afternoon, you return to Amman where we pay a visit to the impressive Roman Amphitheatre.

  • Day 3

    Madaba, Mount Nebo & Petra

    After breakfast, you travel to Madaba, home of the famous Byzantine Mosaics. You visit the Greek Orthodox Church where the famous sixth century map of Biblical holy places is found. You continue to Mount Nebo where Moses finally saw the promised land of Israel. After lunch, you drive south to the Crusader Castle of Kerak which dates from the 12th century. Finally, you continue to the small town of Wadi Musa which is the gateway to Petra. Dinner and overnight at a hotel near Petra.

  • Day 4


    Petra - The Rose City - is an extraordinary and unique place. Built by the Arab Nabateans over 2,000 years ago, the buildings of the city were hewn out of the soft sandstone. Palaces, temples, the treasury and monumental tombs were all carved into the desert rock. Approached by way of the Siq, the narrow chasm made famous by Indiana Jones, you have a full day to explore Petra in the company of a guide.

  • Day 5

    Wadi Rum

    Today you travel by car to Wadi Rum – The Valley of the Moon - to take the incredible 4x4 tour of this stunning desert landscape. Local Bedouins will escort you to the great mountain of Al Khazali where carvings, inscriptions and rock art depicting hunting scenes from ancient times. In the afternoon you drive north to your hotel by the shores of the Dead Sea.

  • Day 6

    River Jordan & Dead Sea

    This morning you visit the Baptismal site of Bethany by the Jordan where John the Baptist is said to have baptised Jesus. After lunch at your hotel you visit the Dead Sea to swim and float in the Sea. Also known as the Salt Sea, the Dead Sea is a Salt Lake bordering Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Due to its high salt content the sea is famous as a place where you cannot sink in its waters. The black mud which bathers smear over their bodies is believed to have therapeutic properties. In the afternoon there will be time to relax at the hotel swimming pool. Overnight at the Dead Sea

  • Day 7

    Fly from Amman to the UK

    This morning you depart from your hotel and transfer to the airport in Amman for the return flight to the UK.
